Sunn Hemp is an upright, warm-season legume adapted to tropical and subtropical areas, capable of growing over 6 feet tall within 60 days of planting. It adds 80-100 lbs of nitrogen per acre and produces roughly 4 tons of organic matter, while its large roots and strong taproot make it an excellent soil builder.
Sunn Hemp also suppresses several types of nematodes — including reniform, burrowing, and root-knot nematodes — along with troublesome weeds like pigweed. Its leaves run about 30% protein, making it a strong choice for mulch or green manure when cut at the early-to-mid-flowering stage.
