Description

Dutch White Clover Coated & Inoculated is the intermediate-sized white clover — smaller than Ladino White Clover, but more heat tolerant and more profuse in flowering, which is part of why it's used in most of the economically important white clover varieties grown today.

This version comes pre-coated with a clover-specific Rhizobium inoculant, so the nitrogen-fixing bacteria are already in place at planting. That's a real advantage for Dutch White Clover in particular: because its seed is so small (nearly 800,000 seeds per pound), the coating also adds weight and bulk, making it far easier to handle, meter through a drill, and spread evenly compared to bare, dust-fine raw seed. The coating also protects the live bacteria from sun, heat, and dry storage conditions until the seed hits moist soil and germinates.

As a low-growing perennial legume, Dutch White Clover is widely used in pasture and lawn blends for its persistence under grazing and mowing, its ability to fix its own nitrogen (reducing the need for added fertilizer in mixed stands), and its strong tolerance for poorly drained or seasonally wet soils — it has very good flooding tolerance, even though it has only fair drought tolerance.
