Piedmont PeakBlend
Piedmont PeakBlend is a warm season grazing blend built for those new to cover crop forage or looking for a lighter, more manageable option. Five diverse species work together to deliver quality forage, nitrogen production, and soil health benefits across a wide range of conditions.
BMR Sorghum-Sudangrass anchors the blend with high quality forage and exceptional digestibility. Cowpeas bring drought tolerance and adaptability to most soil types while fixing nitrogen and attracting beneficial insects. Taproot Radish punches through compaction, improves water infiltration, and scavenges nitrogen, sulfur, and calcium from deeper in the soil profile. Japanese Millet rounds out the grass component with strong drought resistance, good biomass production, and a fibrous root system that builds soil aggregates even in lower fertility soils.
Sunn Hemp adds another dimension to this grazing blend. Best utilized at 32 to 40 inches, it contributes additional nitrogen and delivers impressive forage quality — averaging 18 to 20% protein with a total digestible nutrient value of 75. It performs well across a wide pH range of 5 to 7.5, thrives on poor soils with adequate phosphorus and potassium, and offers natural resistance to root knot nematodes.
