Catskill PeakBlend
Catskill PeakBlend is a cool-season cover crop mixture combining annual ryegrass and crimson clover — a grass and legume pairing formulated to accomplish most cover crop objectives at the highest level. With a higher concentration of crimson clover than many comparable blends, it delivers strong nitrogen fixation potential alongside the soil structure and erosion control benefits of annual ryegrass.
Unlike radish-containing mixes, the Catskill contains no brassica component, making it an excellent choice for fields with residual herbicide history — particularly fields where products such as Pursuit have been applied in prior years, as residual carryover can affect radish establishment.
While this mixture will not winterkill, it is easily managed in the spring when proper termination procedures are followed. Seed comes pre-inoculated with crimson clover inoculant. Inter-seeding is supported — contact a specialist for details.
Seeding Rates & Depth: Drilled: 12 lbs/acre at ¼"–½" deep | Broadcast: 16 lbs/acre | Aerial: 18 lbs/acre Not recommended for precision planting.
Planting Window: 3–10 weeks before average first frost.
Emergence: Crimson Clover: 7–10 days | Annual Ryegrass: 14 days
Termination: Annual ryegrass and crimson clover require a burndown of 2 quarts of glyphosate with 1 pint of 2,4-D. Best control is achieved on warm, sunny days above 60°F between 9 AM and 2 PM with spray water adjusted to pH 5.0–5.5. Apply when annual ryegrass is approximately 8–12 inches in height, before the first node has developed or prior to jointing stage.
