Wide Adaptation
Cajun II is a special crossing of "European-type" and"Mediterranean-type" fescues extending its range of adaptation and providing a wider range of ability to tolerate both hot, humid climates, as well as colder climate zones. Data from the Northeast & Southeast shows that Cajun II has a wide range of adaptation. Cajun II was developed primarily out of selections of the well-known varieties Cajun, Martin, Mozark and
KY-31. Cajun II has been bred for high yields. This is noticeable with earlier spring growth, high first cutting yields and extended production in the fall. Cajun II is approximately 11 days earlier that Kentucky 31. For optimal forage quality, match grazing/cutting dates to this early maturity characteristic. Fall growth is excellent for stockpiling and fall grazing.
Endophyte-free, Horse Safe
Cajun II is endophyte-free, meaning it is safe for all livestock including horses. Endophyte-free also means grazing animals will spend more time grazing and less time in the shade or in the ponds. New evidence also suggests significant improvements in cattle reproductively can be achieved with endophyte-free grazing. Cajun II has been tested in Tennessee, Kentucky, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and New York. Cajun II has also been tested under the experimental name FTF 9077.
