Common Vetch is a tiny, annual legume with a taproot that can reach depths of 3-5 feet. It is moderately resistant to cold temperatures and grows on a wide range of soils. Common Vetch offers great spring weed sppression and its high dry matter and nitrogen accumulation, and the absence of hard seeds, make it an excellent winter cover crop in annual vegetable rotations.
