Cumberland PeakBlend
Cumberland PeakBlend was developed for the experienced grazer. It is a versatile warm season mixture built for producers who want maximum diversity, biomass production, nitrogen fixation, and improved soil health in a single planting. Building on the foundation of the Piedmont blend — BMR sorghum-sudangrass, sunn hemp, Japanese millet, Taproot Radish, and cowpeas — the Cumberland adds Pearl Millet, sunflowers, turnips, non-GMO soybeans, and non-GMO BMR corn to create one of the most comprehensive warm season grazing blends available.
BMR sorghum-sudangrass and BMR corn deliver highly digestible, high-biomass forage with excellent grazing characteristics. Sunn hemp and cowpeas are fast-establishing nitrogen fixers that build soil fertility rapidly, while non-GMO soybeans add additional nitrogen fixation and extensive root mass in the top 6 inches of soil with a taproot extending deeper — generating large volumes of biomass without the risk of going to seed in most regions.
Japanese millet and Pearl Millet contribute heat and drought tolerant forage diversity with high palatability. Sunflowers drive deep root systems that pull sulfur and zinc up from the subsoil into the active root zone, making those nutrients available to the entire plant community. Taproot Radish captures and holds nutrients over the season while improving soil compaction. Turnips improve water infiltration rates and scavenge nitrogen, sulfur, and calcium, with foliage that livestock find highly palatable.
With good drought and stress tolerance across the full species mix, the Cumberland is designed to perform under pressure while delivering the plant diversity that drives long-term soil health improvement.
Grazing Note: Graze sunflowers below 40 inches for best results. Do not graze BMR sorghum-sudangrass immediately after a frost event — allow adequate time before introducing livestock as prussic acid can be present following freeze events.
